1,900 race in Assam Rifles Half Marathon

Cash prize worth 18.15 lakh awarded to 48 runners  

Shillong, Nov 24: Kailash Chaudhary from 20 Assam Rifles emerged as the overall champion while Anjali Kumari from Bihar became first in female category of Assam Rifles Half Marathon held in Shillong on Sunday.

Over 1,900 runners coming from 28 states and three union territories took part in the fourth edition of the competition to promote Fit India Movement at DGAR headquarters at Laitkor, Shillong

Chaudhari clocked 01:05:30 hrs while Kumari made it in 01:19:43 hrs in the competition held in three categories – Cloud Chase (21 km), Pine Path (10 km), and Crystal Stream (5 km).

Of the total 1,900 runners, 347 took part in 21-km, 826 in 10-km, and 776 in 5-km categories, stated a press release.

Olympian boxer MC Mary Kom, brand ambassador of the event, also took part in 10-km run.

Cash prizes worth ₹18.15 lakh were awarded to 48 runners in various categories besides 150 consolation prizes, medals, certificates and T-Shirts.

Air Marshal Surat Singh, AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command handed over the prizes to winners of 21-km and 10-km categories.

The event was promoted as a first Green Marathon in North East with zero plastic promoting recycling of the waste, the release added.
