200 apply for MBBS seats in PIMC  

Shillong, Oct 30: PA Sangma International Medical College & Hospital, the state’s first private medical college, has opened receipt of online applications for MBBS seats under State and NRI quota in which over 200 candidates have applied during a 23-hour window.

Of the medical college’s total 150 seats approved recently by the National Medical Commission (NMC), 64 belong to state quota, 23 under NRI quota while the rest 63 seats go to management quota. Of the state quota, 25 candidates were fully sponsored by the government and half for the rest, 64 candidates.

 “Up till now 200 candidates have applied,” said health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday.

The PA Sangma International Medical College & Hospital belonging to University of Science and Technology (USTM) at Baridua started the online mop-up and stray vacancy round for Meghalaya State NEET UG 2024 at 4 pm on October 28 and continued until 5 pm of October 29.

Asked about the tuition fees for state quota – ₹4.95 lakh per year (₹24.75 lakh for the entire course), Lyngdoh said, “In case of USTM, the fee was agreed in a joint meeting of all concerned with the USTM.”

“In a private medical college, these norms are permissible. It’s allowed,” she said.

The reservation policy for the state quota will also be finalised soon.

Meanwhile, the ordinance passed by the cabinet to facilitate admission in the medical college is awaiting approval from the governor, she said.

The minister also ensured total transparency in the admission process.
