
Nongstoin, April 9: Three suspected drug peddlers smuggling in heroin and Marijuana contraband from Assam into West Khasi Hills region have been intercepted and arrested in Nongstoin on Tuesday night.

Following intelligence inputs about a possible transit of contraband, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) laid a nakka checking and successfully intercepted a vehicle (B/R No. ML 06 A 1450) late Tuesday evening at Nonglang village along the Langpih-Nongstoin road, apprehending three suspected drug peddlers returning from Assam.
The suspects, identified as Bryan Kharbani (29) and Donkerry Ryntathiang (25), both from New Nongstoin, and Morningstar L. Rngaid (31) from Pyndengrei Mawkhmahwir village, were found in possession of 15 grams of heroin, along with vials, syringes, a mobile phone, and cash, all seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
Ob further inspection of the vehicle, driven by Kostarlin Iawphniaw (28) from Mawlai Syiem village, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, led to the recovery and seizure of 130 grams of ganja. A case has been registered at Nongstoin Police Station under the NDPS Act, and an investigation is underway to trace backward and forward linkages in the drug network.
