3 women among 4 held with drugs worth over Rs 4 cr

Shillong, Aug 17: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and East Jaintia Hills Police on Sunday had a major breakthrough in the fight against drugs as two drug suppliers were arrested from different places and drugs worth Rs 4.4 crore seized from their possession.

The police intercepted a passenger bus and arrested one Isak L Joute (26), a resident of Madanriting, Shillong, during a checking at Byndihati under Khliehriat police station. He was travelling from Churachandpur in Manipur to Shillong.

Heroin weighing 91.86 gram, packed in nine soap boxes, and worth around ₹40 lakh was seized from his possession.

On the same day, another naka was set up at Umkiang Patrol Post under Lumshnong police station and apprehended three women – Kimnei (33), Dimkhothing (47) and Ngaiting (40), all residents of Khongjom, Tengnoupal, Manipur.

During search, 961.33 grams of heroin packed in 80 soap boxes valued at nearly Rs 4 crore were found concealed in four travel bags in their vehicle.

Police suspect them to be part of an inter-state drug syndicate ferrying narcotics from Manipur to Shillong and onward to other parts of India.

Both cases have been registered under the NDPS Act and investigation is under way to trace the wider network.

Police have appealed to the public to provide any information on others involved in the illegal trade, assuring confidentiality and suitable rewards for credible inputs.
