Shillong, Mar 13: The process of recruitment in over 3,000 posts in police department will be completed by June this year, deputy chief minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said on Thursday.
“I would like to assure that by the end of June 2025, by the first quarter of the next financial year 2025-2026, I am sure the process of recruitment will be completed,” Tynsong said in reply to a question in the state assembly.
He said the recruitment board has been tasked to complete the process at the earliest keeping in mind that shortage of manpower has to a great extent affected functioning of the police department.
It has also affected the implementation of Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), he said.
After completion of the recruitment, all police stations would be strengthened to comply with the Act to ensure registration of every citizen coming from outside to a locality, the deputy chief minister said.
“Verification has to be done by the respective police station and police outpost… thereafter the information has to be transferred to the district task committee… which is all already in operation,” Tynsong said.
Holding the manpower issue responsible for delay in investigation and filing charge sheets, he said the department has made every effort to complete the processes in time and that even the DGP herself has taken up the responsibility of pursuing pending cases.
On housing facility for police personnel, Tynsong said the present police housing complex at Khyndailad would be shifted to New Shillong Township.
Urban Affairs department is in the process of finalising the land for the purpose, he said.
Expressing confidence over getting the land for the complex, he said, “I am very sure that at least the Grade 4 employees should not suffer and at least a minimum requirement of two BHK should be provided according to the category of the employees.”
Further, Tynsong said the department had written to Transport department on the need to create a dedicated space for keeping vehicles involved in accidents.
“We are also thinking of having it in every district. We will sit down with the respective District Transport Officers to provide the space,” he stated.
