4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme kicks off at NEHU

Shillong, Oct 16: An induction programme for students of a four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) was held at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Tuesday.

This is a milestone in teacher education in Meghalaya as the course that integrates both subject specialisation and education studies is being offered in only 64 institutions across India, stated a press release. 

Speaking on the occasion, cabinet minister AL Hek highlighted the importance of ITEP in producing highly qualified educators.

NEHU vice-chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, in his address, highlighted the unique structure of ITEP, which offers a dual-major framework, combining a specialised subject in Arts, Science, or Commerce.

He also elaborated on the benefits of Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) integrated within the course, allowing students to tailor their educational experience to their personal and professional aspirations. 

“Upon completion, graduates will be eligible not only for advanced studies but also to teach up to the secondary level, take leadership roles as principals, or explore diverse opportunities in education,” he added.
