Gopalganj, May 12: Police in Bihar’s Gopalganj district rescued around 44 girls allegedly trafficked from different parts of the country, a senior offical said on Tuesday.
Over 20 people have been arrested in this connection, he said.
The girls were rescued on Tuesday from dance groups during an operation carried out by Kuchaikote police station personnel in coordination with Patna Police headquarters, the official said.
“Based on a tip-off, police launched a search operation and rescued around 44 underage girls hailing from different parts of the country. The number might change upon final verification of age-related documents,” Gopalganj Sadar SDPO Pranjal Kumar told PTI.
The girls were allegedly trafficked from states like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, he said.
“An FIR has been registered. Police have arrested over 20 people, including orchestra operators and individuals allegedly involved in bringing the girls to Bihar from other states,” Kumar said.
The rescued girls have been sent for medical examination, and further investigation is underway, he added. (PTI)
