War-like stores with over 50 weapons, ammunition recovered in Manipur 

Shillong, Sept 4: Over 50 weapons, large quantities of ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered during a joint operation launched by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police and other paramilitary forces from various districts in Manipur. 

The integrated operations involved extensive planning and judicious use of explosive detection dogs, metal detectors and other state of the art equipment.

Over the course of three days, one Sten Mark-V rifle, two 12 bore single-barrel rifles, two 9mm pistols, nine hand grenades and war-like stores were recovered in Sekmaijin area of Kakching district while one Soviet rifle, one local made rifle, a bolt action rifle, one 0.22 pistol, one improvised mortar, six Pompis and war-like stores from Changsang near Sagolmang and Ekau Mullam near Saikul were also recovered during the joint operations in Kangpokpi district.

Meanwhile, raids in Manipur R Corridor, Molnom-Senam Hills, Saivom Hills, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal and Chandel districts led to the recovery of one 51mm mortar, one rifle MA-3 Mk-II, one AK-47, two Lathodes gun, one .303 rifle, six 9mm pistols, seven single-barrel 12 bore guns, two .22 rifles, twelve single-barrel 12 bore guns, eleven Pompi guns, 49 Improvised Explosive Devices, grenades, tear gas shells, ammunition and war-like stores.

The recovered items were handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation and disposal.
