Shillong, Sept 20: Shillong MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon has suggested a slew of measures for the Centre harness the potential and enhance the efficiency of Dawki Land Port.
Referring to his recent visit to the land port, which was set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs in May last year, he said he had observed a number of pertinent issues to be addressed at the earliest.
“Network and communication are extremely poor and require immediate attention,” the Voice of the People Party (VPP) MP stated in a letter to the chairman of Land Port Authority of India.
Underlining the need for speeding up the widening of the road leading to the land port, he suggested that all out efforts must be made to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the entire campus.
“Warehousing including cold storage facilities must be constructed. Testing facilities to ensure quality products (perishable and non-perishable items) must also be made available,” he said while further adding that opening of a bank in the port is a must for foreign exchange and other banking related activities besides an ATM and the need to increase the parking space.
As far as human resource is concerned, Dr Syngkon said the port must be managed by competent people and not by some unqualified personnel.
“Employment on a priority basis to locals for managerial as well as non- managerial positions must be considered,” he added.
