Workshop to enhance educators’ skills

Hands-on activities such as Mathematics-based tinkering, prototyping interactive science projects, simulation techniques, and app-based experiments held during the function

Shillong, Sept 24: A one-day workshop to equip educators with innovative teaching techniques in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) was held which saw the participation of around 100 teachers from schools in Shillong and surrounding areas. 

Held at St. Edmund’s College in Shillong, ‘STEM – Mobilising Science and Technology-Based Learning for Schools’ focused on fostering inquiry-based learning, creativity, and curiosity among students.

The workshop covered a range of topics to enhance STEM education in both urban and rural settings, offering rural educators access to high-quality STEM resources. Participants were introduced to hands-on activities such as Mathematics-based tinkering, prototyping interactive science projects, simulation techniques, and app-based experiments.

The attendees also received certificates for their participation, marking the conclusion of a day aimed at bridging the educational divide and fostering collaboration among educators.

The event was organised by the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune and Smart Village Movement (SVM), Meghalaya.

The programme was graced by prominent figures including Swapnil Tembe, Additional Secretary of the Education Department & Director of School Education and Literacy, Government of Meghalaya, as well as Dr. Collin Z. Renthlei, Advisor (Technical) at NECTAR, and Dr. Chaitanya Mungi, Project Coordinator for STEM Ready, IISER Pune. Experts and officials from NECTAR, IISER, and SVM also contributed to the workshop.
