BSF seizes foreign currency; foils smuggling attempt

Shillong, Sept 24: The BSF on Monday foiled a foreign currency smuggling attempt during a special operation near the South West Khasi Hills district border.

A Bangladeshi national, Tonik Hajong (38 years), a resident of Netrakona district, Bangladesh, was caught in possession of Bangladeshi currency 2,37,500 Taka, intended for illegal cross-border activities.

In another operation on the same day, the BSF also seized cosmetic items valued at Rs 15 lakh. A special patrol team confronted a group of 4-5 miscreants attempting to smuggle goods across the border. The miscreants left behind their goods before fleeing towards the jungle.
