Govt prepares to float tenders for 108 service

Hope for job security, pay hike for 108 workers

Shillong, Sept 25: The 108 emergency services will soon be run by the state government, a shift from its present authority, National Health Mission (NHM).

This has brought hope of job security and pay hike for the hundreds of workers currently engaged in the emergency health service.

Currently, the emergency services are temporarily being looked after by the NHM.

The government is in the process of floating tenders for 108 services, said health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh after meeting a delegation of 108 workers, who expressed their gratefulness to the government’s decision to enhance their monthly remunerations.

“I am praying and hoping that this time, we will have no problems (in the tendering process) as we have learnt from previous mistakes. This time, we have a lot of the line departments as members of the committee that is going to scrutinise the (bid) documents,” she said.

The minister further informed that the pre-bid meeting was supposed to be held on Tuesday but it had to be postponed till Wednesday.

“I hope that we will be able to select the best 108 service providers,” she said.

She also underlined the need to prepare proper terms and conditions for the vendor in order to ensure the rights of 108 workers.
