Shillong, Oct 15: NPP leader and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has said the party is fully prepared to face the upcoming Gambegre bye-election and elections to the two Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, saying that they expect a “positive” result when the votes get counted.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, Lyngdoh said, “NPP is a party, which is preparing itself adequately for every election. It could be a legislative assembly election, it could be the district council elections and it could be the MP election, we are a party that prepares our election adequately.”
Stating that the NPP will fight to win the Gambegre seat, the cabinet minister said, “We will fight the bye election and try to retain the seat. We will try to take it away from any political party because at this point of time political stability in the state of Meghalaya is very much required.”
The NPP is fielding chief minister Conrad K Sangma’s wife Mehtab Chandee Sangma for the Gambegre bye-election, which is necessitated following the resignation of former 3-time legislator Saleng A Sangma after being elected as Tura MP earlier this year.
“We don’t know what debates there are but we just pray that we do not divide ourselves based on communities, our creed, our profession, our religion. NPP will prepare the best,” she added.
Further, Lyngdoh said, “If you ask me what our level of preparation and preparedness is, we are 100 percent prepared. I had not been to the field. Likely, I am not the person to be giving you the correct view of matters but I have been briefed that we are fighting and we are present in these elections. Do not underestimate our preparedness.”
