Former Nartiang legislator passes away

Shillong, Oct 17: Former Nartiang legislator H Britainwar Dan passed away on Wednesday.

His funeral will be held at Jowai Presbyterian cemetery on October 18.

Fondly called as Ma Dan, he was elected from Nartiang for 3 consecutive terms and also served as a cabinet minister. He also served as leader of the opposition.

He was also elected twice as MDC to the Jaintia Hills District Council and was also Chief Executive Member.

In his condolence message, Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma expressed grief and sorrow on the demise of Dan.

Commissioner & Secretary Andrew Simons has also expressed sorrow on behalf of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Recalled the days with Ma Dan, Simons said he can vividly recall their open and candid discussions. “Ma Dan was a veteran legislator and was closely associated with (L) Ma Ripple Kyndiah and (L) Ma John Deng Pohrmen. He was mild, soft spoken with good political acumen. He will be remembered for his tireless devotion to the people and his political legacy,” he said.
