BSF thwarts smuggling attempt

Shillong, Oct 24: BSF troops seized items worth over Rs 16 lakh along the international border of Meghalaya in separate operations conducted in West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills.  

Acting on specific information, BSF rescued 27 cattle concealed in a jungle area intended for being smuggled into Bangladesh. The seized cattle have been handed over to Muktapur police in West Jaintia Hills for further necessary action.

In another operation, a pick-up vehicle (ML-05-AC) loaded with cosmetic items without valid documents was stopped near the East Khasi Hills border. In addition, a sizable quantity of eatable items and liquor were also seized in other operations along the border.
