HC asks Govt to send copy of chargesheet to petitioner
Shillong, Oct 24: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the state government to send a copy of the charge-sheet filed against former DGP Lajja Ram Bishnoi for using a fake number plate, to the petitioner in the case.
“Since, consequent to the submission of the charge-sheet there is a change in the situation, the State is directed to furnish a copy of the charge-sheet to the petitioner so that the petitioner gets some opportunity to go through the same before the matter is taken up for final disposal,” the high court stated in its order passed on Tuesday. The court listed the matter for next hearing on November 12.
On May 9 this year, suspended cop and former assistant inspector general GK Iangrai filed an FIR against the then DGP just before the latter’s retirement, for alleged misuse and tampering of registration number plate of his vehicle.
The court was informed by the government counsel police had framed the charge-sheet in this connection and it was forwarded to the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate.
The petitioner’s counsel, however, submitted that he had no information of filing of the charge-sheet neither a copy of it.
The court had earlier passed an interim order to ensure no coercive action be taken against the former DGP LR Bishnoi in connection with the case.
