Petition against cement cos in EJ Hills

Shillong, Oct 28: Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) said it would move Central authorities over the alleged delay in taking action for protection of environment and local communities affected by operation of cement companies in East Jaintia Hills district. 

In a statement, HITO president Donbok Dkhar said, “(We are) preparing to submit an important petition to the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests (tomorrow) on October 28.”

“The purpose of our petition is to seek clarification regarding the delayed actions against cement companies operating in the East Jaintia Hills district,”he said, adding, “We believe that timely intervention is crucial for the protection of our environment and communities affected by these industrial activities.”
