Governor vows to lift up state youth, students  

ABVP Meghalaya hosts 8th State Conference

Shillong, Nov 14: Governor CH Vijayashankar has asserted that he wants to see progress and development of each sector of the state and also pledged to contribute constructively for the youth and students of the state. 

Speaking as the chief guest at the 8th State Conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Meghalaya on Wednesday, the Governor credited the student organisation for  making him what he is today.

Addressing the attendees comprising of over 500 delegates, including institution heads, professors, teachers, entrepreneurs, well-wishers, students, and youth from across the state, the governor said he has been associated with ABVP since his youth days and lauded the student organisation for doing constructive work for the institution of the state as well as of the country. 

The conference commenced on November 12 with district-level meetings and an official inaugural function held at the U So So Tham Auditorium in the city on Wednesday. 

In attendance as the guest of honour was Cabinet Minister AL Hek, who also lauded the initiative of ABVP Meghalaya in constructive development of the students’ community and the institution through its various domains. 

Chief speaker of the ceremony Dr Sudipta Mukhopadhyay who is the National Vice President of ABVP, mentioned the role of students in building the Nation by being an active member of the world largest student organisation.

The ceremony began with a flag hoisting, symbolizing unity and dedication, followed by a captivating exhibition that highlighted the cultural heritage of Meghalaya. The event underscored the spirit of ABVP in fostering youth leadership and preserving the cultural essence of the region.

Other who attended the conference included Dr Kestonbel Manik Syiemlieh, president of the Reception Committee; Hammarsing Kharmar, reception committee secretary; ABVP Meghalaya state president Dr Sashankutlang Khongthorem; and state secretary Tengku M. Marak. 

The conference will continue with a role model session on November 14, where distinguished personalities from various fields will share their experiences to inspire and motivate the student and youth delegates. On the same day, a cultural rally will showcase the diverse and rich heritage of Meghalaya, emphasizing the state’s cultural pride.

This 8th State Conference marks an important milestone for ABVP Meghalaya, bringing together young minds to celebrate culture, leadership, and education.
