Shiloong, Nov 20: Governor CH Vijayashankar on Tuesday met Deblina Khongdup, member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) at Raj Bhavan.
Khongdup along with two other members paid a courtesy visit to the governor and briefed him about the commission’s ongoing initiatives to safeguard and promote the rights of women across the country, with a specific focus on Meghalaya.
Challenges faced by women in the state and the need for collaborative efforts to ensure their empowerment andwell-being were also discussed in detail.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the National Commission for Women in addressing critical issues related to gender equality and the protection of women’s rights and also emphasized the importance of creating awareness at the grassroots level and strengthening support mechanisms to address grievances effectively.
The delegation also presented the first Khasi Calendar to the Governor which is made according to the Lunar Cycle consisting of 13 months and 8 days per week.
Guv felicitates Steve Jyrwa
Meanwhile, Governor Vijayashankar also felicitated Steve Jyrwa, the winner of India’s Best Dancer Season 4.
Commending Jyrwa for his remarkable achievement which has brought immense pride and recognition to Meghalaya on the national stage, the Governor felicitated him with Raj Bhavan Memento and Khasi Rindhiya.
Praising Stevefor his dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent, the governor said it serves as an inspiration to the youth of the state and also encouraged him to keep working hard and motivated him to represent India on the international stage.
The Governor emphasized the importance of nurturing artistic talent and urged the youth of Meghalaya to pursue their dreams with passion and perseverance. He also expressed hope that Steve’s success would encourage aspiring dancers and artists to explore their potential and contribute to the cultural richness of the state.
