UDP confident of good show in ADC polls

Shillong, Nov 21: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has expressed confidence that the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region would support the party in the elections in the autonomous district council (ADC) elections in the region slated for next year.

Disclosing that the party was gearing up its preparation for the ADC polls in Khasi and Jaintia Hills, cabinet minister and UDP leader Kyrmen Shylla, said, “We are just waiting for the time to announce the candidates in all the districts.”

Shylla also claimed that many election aspirants have sought ticket from the UDP.

Recalling the party’s “good performance” in the last KHADC and JHADC elections, he said, “We will prove it that our people will be with us.”

Asked if the emerging Voice of the People’s Party (VPP), would affect the UDP’s prospect in the ADC polls, Shylla said, “Any new political entrant is welcome… we are here to prove that we really care for the people.”

Further, Shylla expressed confidence that the people of the state would ensure the UDP gets more seats in 2028. In the 2023 assembly election, UDP won 12 seats.
