Centre approves ₹378 crore for landslide mitigation in Northeast

Guwahati, Nov 26: A High-Level Committee, chaired by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, has approved ₹1,115.67 crore for disaster mitigation and capacity-building projects across various states. Among the initiatives, a significant allocation of ₹378 crore has been earmarked for landslide risk mitigation in eight Northeast states under the National Landslide Risk Mitigation Project.

The Northeast states benefiting from this project are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, reflecting the government’s focus on addressing the region’s vulnerability to landslides. The funding, part of the ₹1,000 crore allocated for 15 states under this project, will support efforts to reduce landslide risks and enhance resilience.
