ADC polls: ECs shall need NPP’s blessings: Ampareen

Shillong, Dec 6: Boasting about the ruling NPP’s presence in the state, both in state assembly and autonomous district councils (ADCs), party leader and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday said the executive committee (EC) to be formed in any of the three ADCs will need “NPP’s blessings”.

“You may have any party forming an EC in any of the district councils, (but) if you don’t get the blessings of NPP, it will be difficult for you to achieve anything,” Ampareen said, adding, “That’s the way politics work.”

Expressing confidence over the NPP’s preparation for the upcoming ADC polls, the minister emphasised the need for the party workers and leaders to work hard and present positive report cards ahead of the polls.

Lamenting report cards submission in 2018 and 2023, she said, “Nobody really cared what an MLA or an MDC did for the constituency.”

“It seems like everybody is on an emotional high. I don’t know whether that same emotional high will again blind everybody, but time will tell,” she said.

Reminding that the MDA government has three more years, Lyngdoh said, “Don’t underestimate us. It doesn’t matter what happens in the district council elections. You cannot survive if you are not on the same page with the government, which is ruling the state.”

Hailing the party and chief minister Conrad Sangma as well, she said, “Where will you find a chief minister humbling himself in unknown territory talking to the public on CM-Connect. Have you seen? I am yet to see one.”

She also advocated for NPP getting a role of uniting the North East, politically.
