Meghalaya honoured for ‘Excellence in PDS Reforms’

Shillong, Dec 6: Meghalaya has been conferred an honour for “Excellence in Public Distribution System Reforms” during the launch of Anna Chakra, the PDS supply chain optimisation tool, in New Delhi.

The accolade highlights the state’s commitment to enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability in PDS, ensuring timely and effective delivery of food grains to beneficiaries across the state, stated an official release.

Appreciating the state Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs department for the honour, cabinet minister Comingone Ymbon said collective efforts have propelled Meghalaya to the forefront of PDS reform at the national level.

Pravin Bakshi, commissioner and secretary for the department, said the achievement was realised through collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), IIT Delhi, and NIC, whose technical expertise played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of these reforms.

“Meghalaya’s inclusion among the recognised states is a testament to its proactive approach to governance, leveraging technology and innovation to meet the needs of its people. The reforms undertaken serve as a model for other states aspiring to enhance their PDS operations and ensure food security for all,” added the release.
