Delhi, Dec 8: The eight states of Northeast India, often celebrated as the ‘Ashtalakshmi’ — the eight forms of prosperity — are not just cultural and ecological treasures but are also emerging as a hub of economic potential. This promise was vividly on display at the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, where a remarkable ₹2326 crore worth of investment intents was secured, signalling a new era of growth for the region.
Held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, the Mahotsav provided an unprecedented platform for showcasing the Northeast’s textile brilliance, artisanal crafts, and unique Geographical Indication (GI) products. The highlight of the event was an exclusive Investor Roundtable, which facilitated crucial dialogues between State and Central government officials, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and investors. The event aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of driving holistic development in India’s Northeast.
The roundtable focused on unlocking investment potential across key sectors such as agriculture, handicrafts, handlooms, tourism, and education. Senior officials from the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (MDoNER), DPIIT, and various State Governments were present, lending weight to the initiative.
Industry leaders shared insights on leveraging technology and new-age business models to overcome regional challenges and boost returns. The state governments showcased lucrative investment opportunities, seeking partnerships that could create long-term growth and synergies.
A recurring theme was the need to blend the Northeast’s rich heritage with modern business practices, ensuring cultural preservation while driving economic growth. The State-wise investment presentations were followed by B2G (Business-to-Government) meetings, where prospective investors engaged in direct discussions with state officials, exploring sector-specific projects and opportunities.
The event saw Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State in Doner Dr Sukanta Majumdar being part of a fashion show showcasing the vibrant styles of Northeast India.
