Inter-state bike lifter gang busted; 6 arrested from Meghalaya, Assam

Guwahati, Dec 10: An inter-state gang of bike lifters has been busted in a joint operation of Assam and Meghalaya police.

Altogether six persons, three each from Meghalaya and Assam, were arrested and three stolen bikes recovered during the operation.

The racket active in Meghalaya and Assam is involved in smuggling stolen vehicles across the international border to Bangladesh, according t police.

A team of Gorchuk police station in Guwahati in collaboration with Special Operations Group (SOG) of West Jaintia Hills district apprehended three suspected bike lifters identified as Abdul Hanif Seikh (32) from Dhubri, Rafiq Ali (30) from Kamrup and Jakir Hussain (27) from Barpeta in Assam.

Based on their confessions, the police laid a trap at Jowai and arrested three persons for allegedly receiving the stolen vehicles.

They have been identified as Dibormi Amrynsong (26) and Tunadahun Matra (25), both from Kharthane, West Jaintia Hills; and Rimiki Suchiag (22) from Saphai, Jowai.

Police also recovered three stolen two-wheelers from Karkhana near India-Bangladesh border.

Tools used in the thefts, including three master keys and an iron-cutter hand saw were also seized during the operation.
