Govt keeps close eye on border after spotting UAVs

Shillong, Dec 18: The governments, both at the Centre and in the state, are keeping a close eye on the situation along Indo-Bangla border in the wake of sighting of Bangladeshi Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) along Meghalaya’s international border, said deputy chief minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong.

The UAVs were spotted near Sohra and Shella in East Khasi Hills district, about 200 meters south of the Zero Line. The state shares 443-km-long international border with Bangladesh.

“We (state government) are keeping the government of India informed (on this matter) and government of India is taking serious note on this. Similarly, as the state government, we are also doing our job,” Tynsong told reporters on Monday.

When asked, Tynsong said he has already instructed the chief secretary and director general of police (DGP) to take necessary steps on the matter.
