Tura, Jan 17: The newest batch of Meghalaya Civil Services officers were announced on Friday with 35 candidates clearing the final hurdle of the personal interviews and a young Garo girl Miss Chingba Jimbe Ch Marak topping the list of successful candidates.

Among the successful candidates, four toppers- including Chingba Jimbe Ch Marak, belong to the Unreserved Category. There are 14 successful women candidates.

Fourteen of the 35 successful candidates hail from the Khasi-Jaintia category, another 14 belong to the Garo category, and two others belong to the Other Schedule Tribes/Scheduled Caste (OST/SC) category.

The 35 successful candidates were among several thousand candidates who appeared for the Meghalaya Civil Services Junior Grade (Part B Mains February 2022 and July 2023) before the cutout list for personal interviews. The interviews were conducted this month from 7th to 10th and from 14th to 16th of January.

This is the second batch of MCS officers after a gap of over five long years.

The list of successful candidates come from diverse backgrounds and work environments. Topper Chingba Jimbe Ch Marak was working in the Meghalaya Secretariat as an LDA when she cleared the exams. Another successful candidate from the Garo category, Allan Sabathsal P Marak, is a research officer working in the South Garo Hills district headquarters of Baghmara.

Another successful candidate, hailing from Tura, Miss Eleanor Mikkimchi A Sangma is a successful content writer and storyteller who worked with the erstwhile The Meghalayan newspaper churning out eye-catching stories that left readers spellbound.

The successful batch will be undergoing a six month vigorous training before being deputed across the state.
