Assam Guv inaugurates Samutkarsh Mahashivir 2025, emphasizes role of education in nation-building

Guwahati, Jan 29: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated the three-day Samutkarsh Mahashivir 2025 programme, organized by Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra, at Sarusajai Stadium on Wednesday.

In his inaugural speech, Governor Acharya emphasized that education is the essence of life, shaping individuals and playing a pivotal role in the nation’s development. He underscored the need for an education system that not only imparts knowledge but also fosters good citizenship and moral values.

Quoting Aristotle, the Governor remarked, “A civilized society is one where good people become good citizens,” highlighting the importance of educational reforms in strengthening the foundation of a cultured and progressive nation.

Acharya reflected on India’s rich educational heritage, noting that India’s ancient education system was highly advanced and deeply integrated with its culture and wisdom. He elaborated on the Gurukul system, where teachers and students lived together in pursuit of holistic education, focusing on intellectual and cognitive skill development.

Ancient India was home to renowned centers of higher learning, including Nalanda, Takshashila, Vikramshila, and Ujjaini, which imparted education in various disciplines such as science, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, and literature. He emphasized that India’s traditional education system promoted high thinking, self-realization, and service to society, inspiring generations even today.

The Governor lauded Vidya Bharati for its efforts in promoting holistic development, critical thinking, and compassion among students. He stressed the importance of integrating technology into education, ensuring that the youth are equipped with skills that align with global advancements.

He also highlighted the significance of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, describing it as the first comprehensive education policy of the 21st century, merging India’s traditional educational values with modern technological innovations.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Mines and Minerals Minister Kaushik Rai, chairman of the Organizing Committee, Lieutenant General (Retd) Rana Pratap Kalita, chairman of NEDFi, P.V.S.L.N Murthy, patron of Vidya Bharati Arunachal Pradesh, Tai Tagak, national secretary of Vidya Bharati, Brahmaji Rao, secretary of Vidya Bharati Northeast Region, Dr. Jagadindra Ray Chowdhury along with a host of other dignitaries, the attendees expressed their commitment to strengthening education as a means to empower future generations.

The Samutkarsh Mahashivir 2025 continues for the next three days, offering a platform to deliberate on educational reforms, cultural heritage, and the integration of technology in learning, furthering the mission of Vidya Bharati in shaping well-rounded, responsible citizens.
