Tura, Feb 6: Revealing how porous the international border continues to be in the Garo Hills sector, despite “vigil” by the BSF, state police in the Dalu sector of West Garo Hills have on Wednesday night arrested as many as nine Bangladeshi nationals including three local guides as the group tried to make their way through the border belt taking cover of darkness.
Due to the heightened alert for possible influx from the neighbouring country which has been in turmoil, state police have been conducting routine checking of vehicles commuting through the vast border belt of Garo Hills.
It was in one such checking that they ran into a group of foreign nationals travelling in two separate vehicles, a Maruti Ecco van (ML14A 0593) and a Maruti car (ML09A 3830), led by three local persons from the region.
During frisking police found the men had in their possession Indian Aadhar cards obtained through dubious means. As many as 12 mobile handsets with different sim cards and Indian currency amounting to Rs.29500/- were seized from the group.
The three Indian facilitators were also arrested with the foreign nationals and the vehicles seized.
The arrested foreign nationals have been identified as Md.Mostafa (39 years) of Narayan ganja, Bangladesh, Manir Hussain (38 years) of Chokpara, Bangladesh, Md.Manik Mia (32) of Nich Borurbari, Bangladesh, Nasir Ahmed (49) of Lamchori, Bangladesh, Md. Shah Alom (28) of Narayan ganja, Bangladesh, Motaleb Sk (39) of Sherpur, Bangladesh, Sofiqul Islam Badshah (29) of Pilkuni, Bangladesh, Bilal Hussain (36)of Akonkanda, B/desh, and Joel Miah (42) of Narayanganj, Bangladesh.
The three locals from Garo Hills who were aiding the influx and ferrying the illegal immigrants when they were intercepted have been identified as Sengbat R Marak, (29) of Dusinggre village in Purakhasia,
Prebiush M Sangma (18) of Begkagittim village of Dalu and Samarendro Koch (42) belonging to Nokchi village in Dalu.
Case are being registered against both, the foreign nationals and those abetting them, and they have been forwarded to Court.
