DREAM initiative: CCTVs to be installed in Cantonment areas

Shillong, Feb 12: As part of Meghalaya’s Drug Reduction Elimination & Action Mission (DREAM), the state authorities have decided to collaborate with the Cantonment Board to fulfill the mission’s objective in Cantonment areas in the city.

The decision for collaboration to enhance security and governance in Cantonment areas was taken during a meeting between DREAM mission director FG Kharshiing, East Khasi Hills superintendent of police, and Cantonment Board Shillong CEO Ayush Maurya on Tuesday.

They agreed to hold joint meetings and collective inspections on a regular basis to ensure a safer and more secure environment for all residents.

Areas prone to infiltration within the Cantonment area, which is not under the jurisdiction of dorbar shnong, was a key concern raised in the meeting.

It was decided to formulate a strategic anti-infiltration control plan to ensure that unauthorised movements are closely monitored and curtailed.

To enhance surveillance and public safety, CCTV cameras will be installed at key locations within the Cantonment areas.

“This initiative is designed to strengthen the security infrastructure, deter criminal activities, and provide real-time monitoring to law enforcement agencies,” stated an official release.

Additionally, enhanced surveillance is expected to play a crucial role in preventing illegal activities, particularly drug-related issues, which are a growing concern in the region, it said.

The DREAM mission director expressed his gratitude to Cantonment Board Shillong for being sensitive to the security concerns raised by state authorities and for lending full support to the suggested measures.
