Mawkyrwat, Feb 14: With campaigning for the upcoming Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council elections at its peak, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, also National President of the NPP, rallied support for party candidate and sitting MDC Carnes Sohshang across several villages in the Mawkyrwat constituency on February 13.

The chief minister has projected the development work undertaken by his government to garner support for his party candidates.
Holding a series of election rallies, from Shngimawleiñ, Mawthawpdah, Umdohlun, Mawpat, Mawlangwir, Mawkyrwat, Rangmaw to Sakwang, the chief minister emphasized the need for development and unity in the region. “This area has been neglected for too long. We, as a party and government, are committed to bringing the development you deserve. But to achieve this, I need a team, a channel, and your support. That’s why this election is crucial,” he said at Mawthawpdah.

The Chief Minister criticized opposition parties for engaging in divisive politics and propaganda, urging voters to focus on development instead. “After the results on February 24, those who spread negativity will disappear, but we will remain, working for your CHC, roads, and progress. The NPP is the only party that can deliver this change,” he asserted.
Highlighting key initiatives, Sangma informed of the ongoing programmes of the government including plans to upgrade Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to “PHC Plus” with enhanced facilities, addressing the demand for better healthcare infrastructure.

He also assured progress on the Wahkaji-Ranikor road, stating he has personally taken up the matter with the Centre.
In Mawlangwir, Sangma informed of a proposed tourism project worth over Rs. 6 crore to develop the area’s monoliths, while in Sakwang, he informed of the tourism projects worth Rs. 70-80 crore and the sanctioning of a Rs. 13.01 crore synthetic athletic track under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS).

Praising candidate Carnes Sohshang’s leadership qualities, Sangma urged voters to support him. “Bah Carnes is a humble and capable leader. Your support for him will ensure the constituency’s progress,” he said at Rangmaw.
Concluding his campaign, Sangma called for constructive politics and collective effort. “Negative politics won’t build our state. I focus on my work, and I urge you to unite for development. Let’s move forward together,” he said.

With the KHADC polls set for February 24, the NPP has projected itself as the party of development, banking on Sangma’s grassroots outreach and promises of progress to secure victory.
