ADC polls: Tynsong assures of mobile tower at Mawsynram village

Shillong, Feb 18: NPP state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong has urged the people of Mawsynram to re-elect sitting MDC Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie to ensure all-round development of the constituency.

“I urge the people of the five villages to re-elect the sitting MDC instead of getting fooled by other candidates,” Tynsong said during his election campaign at Syntein on Monday.

Underlining the importance of autonomous district council (ADC) elections, he said the National People’s Party (NPP) is committed to further strengthening the rich culture and tradition of the indigenous people.

Admitting the challenge of lack of mobile phone connectivity in Syntein, he assured of providing a mobile tower besides community hall, bridge, etc., in the village, if Sawkmie is re-elected from the constituency.

Tynsong also held campaign at Lawbah village in the constituency.

In his address, Sawkmie assured to take steps to address the problems faced by the farmers from the region.

“We have come up with a Market Act to address the farmers’ issue, which the previous executive committees have failed to do. Under the leadership of NPP, we were able to do away with the practice of deduction of weight of agriculture produces at Iewduh market,” he said.

He also assured of taking up the issues of broomstick farmers and emphasised the need for the KHADC to come up with more effective laws for protection of the indigenous community.

Former MLA Himalaya Shanpliang informed that construction of the road from Weiloi to Phrangymbroi will start very soon and the government has also proposed to sanction another road from Phrangymbroi to Dangar.
