Guwahati, March 10: The Women’s Wing of the Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) marked International Women’s Day 2025 with a virtual gathering, celebrating women’s achievements while addressing the challenges they face in Manipur’s ongoing crisis. The event emphasized women’s role in fostering peace, resisting societal divisions, and advocating for justice.
The event commenced with Khunmanthem Narmada, Convenor of DMCC’s Women’s Wing, highlighting the historic role of Manipuri women in movements like Nupilan and Meira Paibi, urging them to continue as agents of social and cultural change.
Initiating the discussion, DMCC media coordinator Naorem Lilina criticized divisive politics and underscored women’s collective power in resisting injustice.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Syeda Shahni (Biological Scientist) addressed career barriers for women and the need for systemic change to ensure gender equality in professional spaces.
Sanjita Lisham (Founder, Yenning Delicacies) stressed economic empowerment as a tool to combat crime and marginalization. She condemned the culture of online shaming and advocated for ‘Nupina Nupi Chingkhatshi’ (Women Walking Hand in Hand for Peace & Progress).
Biju Samom (Editor, HY News) highlighted women’s paradoxical role in movements—leading protests but being excluded from key decision-making. She urged for greater inclusion of women in governance and support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Manipur.
Thokchom Sujata (Convener, Emagi Meira) exposed patriarchal barriers upheld by women themselves and stressed the need for unity against divisions fueled by economic and social disparities.
Lisham Shanthalembi, DMCC spokesperson, expressed condolences for the victims of the Kangpokpi protest and reaffirmed DMCC’s commitment to peace, dignity, and gender equality.
DMCC convener Dr. Seram Rojesh praised the Women’s Wing for their unwavering resistance against injustice and dedication to rebuilding Manipur through unity and coexistence.
With the resounding call of ‘Nupina Nupi Chingkhatshi!’, the event concluded with a collective pledge to advocate for women-centric policies, equality, and a peaceful future for Manipur.
