MSCPCR seeks action against guilty

Shillong,March19: The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) is working closely with its Karnataka counterparts to ensure appropriate measures against those responsible in the food poisoning incident and assist in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of the 22 students still under treatment.

“We are saddened to learn of the demise of two students from our state hailing from Lyndem village under Pynusla subdivision and Sohparu village under Nongstoin. Any loss of life is regrettable particularly when it involves children from the state in such tragic incident which should not have occurred in the first place,” MSCPCR chairperson and former Tura MP Agatha K Sangma said in a statement on Wednesday.

She said the Commission strongly condemned those involved in violating the Right to Survival of the children.

Meanwhile, the MSCPCR has sought a detailed Report from Karnataka SCPCR to assess and addresses the gaps that lead to such violations of the “Right to Protection” for the children.

The Commission also wished for speedy recovery of the students.
