Bangladeshi tout, 11 others arrested

Shillong, Mar 27: Ri Bhoi police on Wednesday arrested 12 illegal Bangladeshi nationals including a ring leader, from Byrnihat on Wednesday. The police also found forged identity cards like Aadhaar Card, PAN cards, from their possession.

The police received information that one Sukur Janab Shaikh, the kingpin of an organized crime syndicate involved in trafficking of persons across Indo-Bangla border, was travelling from Mumbai to Guwahati with a group of illegal Bangladesh nationals. 

A team of Ri Bhoi Police conducted a search in Train No. 15945 (LTT-Dibrugarh Station) at Kamakhya Junction & Guwahati Junction.

Though Shaikh could not be located, incriminating clues were collected during the search which led to the detection of 11 Bangladesh nationals (including 2 children) at a mobile check post set up at Byrnihat OP where they were travelling in a Tata Sumo vehicle (AS-01-EC-3528).

They have been identified as Kakali Sardar (36), Hirina Dili Mulla (30), Unjilla Sadar (32), Rabia Begum (37), Panna Kamal Hussain (42), Poppy Hasu Mollah (26), Sonia Shaikh (24), Sobha Islam (28), Saja Uddin Sk (26), police said.

District police chief Vivekananda Rathore also informed that based on further investigation and with the help of Assam Police, Shaikh S/o (L) Janab Sheikh, R/o Koralia, District – Narail, Bangladesh was arrested from Nalbari District on the same day.

These persons were staying in India illegally and were proceeding towards Dawki and planned to cross the international border late at night or early morning, said Rathore.

“All accused have been arrested, and investigation is going on,” the SP added.
