Shillong, Mar 28: Well-equipped girls’ washroom facilities, built with CSR funds, were inaugurated in three government schools in Ri-Bhoi and East Khasi Hills districts.
Leading telecom infrastructure company, Indus Towers Ltd, in association with Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID), constructed the facilities in the three schools.
The girls’ washroom at Umden Umroi RMSA Secondary School in Ri-Bhoi district was inaugurated by cabinet minister in-charge Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Alexander Laloo Hek in presence of Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare.
This initiative is part of Indus Towers’ flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Pragati, which aims at providing safe sanitation facilities.
In his address, Hek said, “This initiative is a vital step towards enhancing hygiene, dignity, and overall well-being of our daughters, who frequently face challenges due to inadequate sanitation facilities in schools. I applaud Indus Towers for their commendable efforts.”
Alongside constructing hygienic washrooms, the programme includes comprehensive menstrual hygiene awareness workshops, designed to break social taboos and empower students with vital health knowledge.
Indus Towers’ circle CEO Rajender Singh Gurung, in his address, highlighted the company’s commitment to grassroots development. Beyond infrastructure, this initiative seeks to empower students with dignity, confidence, and a secure environment.
