QR code-based tracking for excise products soon

Shillong, Mar 29: In order to check leakage of excise revenue, the excise department has planned to roll out a QR code based tracking system for various products within next two months.

“We are looking at the possibility of rolling out by June. Within 60 days, we will be rolling out,” commissioner of excise Matsiewdor War Nongbri told reporters after a meeting chaired by excise minister Kyrmen Shylla on Friday.

She informed that the district officers will be given a more in-depth training on the track and trace system being put in place from the time the IMFL etc., are manufactured till the time they are bought by the consumers.

The new system will be able to track exact location of the goods, be it the bottling plant, distillery, bonded warehouse, retail shops, or already sold, Nongbri said.

“This will help the department to a very large extent and I am sure that since we are able to track immediately, we will be able to see the revenue of the department within a click of a button,” she said.

The service provider for the QR code system, Delhi-based CMP Enforce System LLP, will have its people in place in different districts, she said.

“We already have our officers up to constables etc., in different bonded warehouses (for rolling out the implementation),” she said.

Earlier, chief minister Conrad K Sangma while announcing the QR code based tracking system, said it is likely to increase the excise revenue by 5 to 10% by checking revenue leakage.
