Shillong, April 17: In a major infrastructure boost for rural Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has announced that more than 750 previously unconnected villages will be included under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase IV.

During his recent two-day visit to Garo Hills, Tynsong chaired multiple departmental review meetings and expressed satisfaction with the pace of ongoing road projects.

“Though I don’t have the exact number, more or less about 750+ new villages, which have remained unconnected all these years, will be included in PMGSY-IV,” he informed.

He added that the State Public Works Department (PWD) has now been tasked with preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), inviting tenders, and ensuring timely implementation as per the guidelines set by the Ministry of Rural Development.

Tynsong lauded the State PWD and engineers in Garo Hills for their performance in earlier phases of PMGSY. “Right from PMGSY-I, the implementation has always been under close observation by the Ministry. But this time, we have created a record. The Ministry is extremely happy with the progress and the performance of the State PWD,” he said.

He further noted that most of the projects under PMGSY-I, II, and III are on the verge of completion and are expected to be finished by the end of this year.
