Schools express willingness to hand over management to Education dept

Shillong, Apr 21: In a significant development in government’s effort to bring community-run SSA schools under its ambit, over 2,000 such schools have expressed their willingness to be run by the state education department.

School management committees (SMCs) of the 2,000 of total around 3,000 community-run SSA schools have issued no-objection certificates (NOC) for handing over their management to the department.

The data pertaining to collection of NOCs was revealed in a meeting chaired by commissioner & secretary in-charge education Vijay Kumar Mantri with DSEOs, SDSEOs and three teachers’ associations – Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA), All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) and Meghalaya Fourth Teachers’ Association (MFTA).

Informing this after the meeting, MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbai said, “Out of 3,000 plus community-run schools across the state, they have received willingness of 2,000 plus schools.”

“Besides, 23 private schools from East Khasi Hills have submitted their willingness to hand over the management from Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to Education department,” he added.

Following a discussion on non-uniformity in issuing the notification to SMCs seeking NOCs to hand over their management to the Education department, the meeting unanimously decided to issue the notification to the SMCs once again.

On rationalisation of teachers, Rymbai said, the meeting decided that the entire process of rationalisation should be completed by the end of May.

“Since November last year, we have raised this issue with the Education department,” he said.

He also informed that the rationalisation would be done in three categories.
