9,000 seats to be added at HS level with Rs 10 cr additional expense per annum
Shillong, May 1: In order to enhance the intake capacity at higher secondary level in government schools, the state government has decided to upgrade six secondary schools to higher secondary schools and introduce new streams in 11 higher secondary schools.
This will add another 9,000 seats to 11th standard to the current capacity of 12,000 and cost the exchequer another Rs 10 crore every year.

Science stream will be added in Tirot Sing Memorial Govt Higher Secondary School, Nongkhlaw.
Five other schools, already running arts and science streams, will now have commerce stream – Govt Boys HS School, Tura; Dalu Govt Secondary School; Baghmara HS School; Govt Boys’ HS School, Jowai; and Sohkha Govt HS School.
Schools that will be added with arts stream are – Jirang HS School, Ri-Bhoi; Resubelpara HS School; and Maharam HS School, Mawkyrwat.
