State mountaineers to be awarded Grade A

Shillong, May 2: Two members of Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) will be awarded Grade A, highest grade in mountaineering, on their excellence in performance during completion of Mountaineering courses at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling.

Balawanhabor Rynjah from Sankardev College won first position in Sport Climbing and as part of height gaining training, Rynjah and the team of 65 trainees from Advance Mountaineering Course reached Camp I of Mt Kabru Dome.

On the other hand, Keliostar Pdai, Battalion Constable of 3rd MLP Battalion, along with 71 trainees has climbed Mt Renok (16,500Ft) during the Basic Mountaineering Course.

The training held from April 1 to 28 was sponsored by the state Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.

The rigorous and transformative courses equipped trainees with essential skills in mountaineering, including physical training, yoga, rock climbing, ice climbing, jumar climbing, trekking, ice craft, crevasse rescue, map reading, rope techniques and rappelling, stated a press release.
