CM hands over Rs 2 Crore financial aid for Tura Christian and Holy Cross hospitals

Tura, May 6: Giving a major push to strengthening health care across the state, Meghalaya Government on Monday rolled out the Meghalaya Health Advancement Policy with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma handing over financial support of Rs 1 Crore each to the Tura Christian Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, Tura, as part of the government initiative to support non-profit hospitals across the state.

This is the first installment ( Rs 1 Crore) out of a total of Rs 2 Crore for each identified non-profit hospital.

“We will be supporting five not-for-profit hospitals across the state under this policy by providing financial aid to upgrade their infrastructure,” said Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma during handing over of the first two cheques at a function at Working women’s Hostel in Tura.

A total of five non-profit hospitals across the state will be provided with financial aid to upgrade their infrastructure under this policy, including hospitals in Jowai and Shillong, announced Conrad Sangma.

The chief minister acknowledged the immense contribution of Tura’s two missionary run hospitals- Tura Christian Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, and urged them to continue their quality healthcare service to the community in future.

The funds being provided under this policy will enable hospitals to improve critical infrastructure, add rooms, and acquire advanced medical equipment.

The second instalment will be released upon submission of a utilisation certificate for the first tranche, ensuring accountability.

The chief minister was all praise for the tireless efforts of missionary and charitable hospitals, calling the financial aid a “gesture of gratitude” for their community service. “This is not just financial support; it’s our sincere appreciation for the doctors, nurses, and administrators who transform lives,” he said, as he reiterated his government’s commitment to supporting institutions with a legacy of health outreach, aiming for sustainable and accessible healthcare across Meghalaya.

CM Care Plus to support the marginalised

The chief minister also said that the CM Care Plus is a special project which would support the marginalised sector of the society financially with an amount of Rs. 3 lakhs to 10 lakhs maximum subject to availability of funds for critical Operation, kidney transplant or cancer related illness.

 He also announced that the Medical Doctors can now join in any hospitals such as Tura Christian Hospital, etc and their bond requirement would be considered as fulfilled after joining these hospitals.

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Vibhor Agarwal, District Medical and Health Officer, Tura Jakrambal A Sangma, Medical Superintendent, Tura Christian Hospital, Dr. Editha W Momin, DM Nephrology, Tura Christian Hospital, Dr. Benjamin S Sangma, Administrator, Holy Cross Hospital, Sister Praveena, Medical Superintendent, Holy Cross Hospital, Dr Sister Immaculate were among others present during the function.
