Tura, May 12: A beneficiary of the state’s Smart Card for health services from North Garo Hills has filed a complaint with the deputy commissioner accusing the medical department of refusing to renew her card citing lack of Aadhar card from her end.

Tengmerry S Sangma from Balmikram village in Mendipathar region alleged that a medical team that visited her village rejected her card renewal because she failed to provide an Aadhar card claiming it is mandatory.

“The Supreme court ruled in 2018 that Aadhar is not mandatory for various services. Moreover, Meghalaya has already been exempted from mandatory Aadhar card requirement,” mentioned Tengmerry Sangma in her complaint letter to the deputy commissioner.

Demanding action against the medical department for denying her rights to free medical service in the state under the government scheme, she has sought guidance from the deputy commissioner on taking the necessary steps to obtain renewal of her Smart Card for the health benefits of her family.
