DC Hema Nayak conducts inspection of key development projects in South West Garo Hills
Shillong, May 23: Improved parameters of child and maternal health at a community health centre and good progress of a water supply scheme were among the positive feedback received by South West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Hema Nayak during her inspection tour in Mahendraganj region of the district on Friday.

At Mahendraganj Community Health Centre (CHC), Nayak expressed satisfaction over the CHC recording zero maternal deaths and zero home deliveries over the past two years and zero infant deaths and still births in the past four months.
The DC went through all departmental registers, USG rooms, and transit rooms besides holding discussions with Dr Noor Ain Khan, senior M&HO in-charge.
She reviewed implementation of various government health programmes, including Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) and the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).

“These visits emphasise the district administration’s commitment to efficient implementation of government schemes and improving the quality of life for all citizens in South West Garo Hills,” stated an official release.
The visits also lay strong focus on improving service delivery and infrastructure development for the welfare of the people of the district, it added.

As chairperson of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), the DC conducted a field inspection of the Silkona Combined Water Supply Scheme, which is expected to benefit 11 villages, covering 1,880 households.
The DC was informed that 10 villages were already receiving water supply, with pipeline work ongoing in the remaining villages. The physical progress stands at 92% as a power supply issue at the intake area has temporarily halted pumping operations.
The DC instructed the authorities concerned to resolve the power issue urgently and ensure timely project completion.

Zikzak block development officer Digonto Hajong, PHE executive engineer Ampati Division, SDO (PHE) Ampati Sub-Division, junior engineers, and the project contractor accompanied the DC during the visit.
During her inspection at the under-construction Science and Commerce College in Mahendraganj, the DC emphasised the importance of maintaining construction quality and completing the project in a timely manner so that the academic session can begin in August 2025.
The DC’s day-long visit concluded with an inspection of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Zikzak where she interacted with students and teachers and reviewed the school’s infrastructure and functioning.
