Shillong, May 29: With prevailing severe weather conditions and forecast of persistent heavy downpour, the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) has urged the citizens of the state to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant.

“The current weather patterns may lead to risks such as flooding, landslides, lightning strikes, waterlogging, falling trees, and disruptions to utility services. Daily commuters and long-distance travelers are advised to plan their journeys carefully and avoid travel during periods of intense rainfall,” the MSDMA said.

Making an appeal to avoid outdoor recreational activities during such times, the MSDMA said, “Residents living in low-lying areas, near hillsides, or in locations with ongoing construction should stay alert for any signs of flooding, flash floods, or landslides.”

It also strongly advised the public to stay updated with official weather bulletins and follow instructions issued by district authorities to ensure safety during adverse weather conditions.
