Shillong, June 11: The alleged mastermind in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi- his wife Sonam, and the three hired killers are to be taken to Sohra by Meghalaya police for reconstruction of the murder scene.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi are being brought back from Madhya Pradesh by Meghalaya police. Sonam, on a six-day transit remand, is expected in Shillong tonight itself, while the other three will land in the state by Wednesday morning.
East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said that, “After initial interrogations, all four accused will be taken to the crime scene in Sohra for a detailed reconstruction of the events that culminated in Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder.” This exercise is essential to piece together the sequence of events and strengthen our investigation, he added.
Post murder escape by taxi and train
Giving further inputs about the case and how the killers managed to escape unnoticed from Sohra, SP Syiem revealed that after committing the murder, Sonam Raghuvanshi fled the scene, taking a taxi from Mawkadok village to Shillong. From there she left for Guwahati, where she boarded a train to Indore. Although she claims to have reached Indore, her exact movements remain uncertain and are under further police investigation.
As for the three killers, they reportedly followed a similar escape route, traveling by taxi from Sohra to Guwahati before boarding a train to Indore. Police suspect their coordinated yet separate escapes point to a pre-planned strategy.
The district police chief has hailed the commendable work of his men and officers in solving this high profile murder mystery. SP Syiem highlighted the relentless efforts of a dedicated team of 15 to 20 police personnel who worked around the clock to track down the culprits. “Leveraging digital footprints, call records, and CCTV footage, the team made significant progress in unravelling the case. Our goal is to ensure justice for Raja Raghuvanshi by meticulously piecing together every detail,” assured the SP.
Once the crime scene reconstruction takes place, investigators are expected to obtain critical insights into the murder, that will also shed light on the roles each accused played in the chilling murder.
