
Tura, June 21: Villagers in Balachanda area of Phulbari plain belt region have seized a car and three cows that were allegedly being transported towards the Bangladesh border for smuggling early Saturday morning.

The cows were packed together inside a Chevrolet car ML05 F 2211 and passing near the village of Aronggre Bajamara in Balachanda when it was intercepted by alert villagers just before dawn.
The driver abandoned the car and its consignment and fled into the jungle taking advantage of the darkness. The cows and the car have been handed over to the police.

Cattle smuggling has become rampant in the Garo Hills region, particularly the plain belt area of West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills with frequent interceptions by alert villagers.
