35 MCS officers of 2025 batch complete 16-week induction training
Shillong, June 24: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma has urged newly inducted Meghalaya Public Service (MCS) officers to adopt a “people-first” approach in their upcoming career as bureaucrats of the state.
Addressing the 2025 batch 35 MCS officer trainees, who concluded their 16-week induction training at Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI), the chief minister on Tuesday urged them to work with purpose and humility, prioritising the needs of the people they serve.
Sangma called for continuous focus of MCS officers on the people, saying, “In our endeavour to accomplish tasks and targets, we must remember that the core of our approach has to be people first.”
Highlighting the significance of emotional intelligence, the chief minister said, “Emotional intelligence is very crucial in the job. You have to know how to handle situations.”
Sangma also advised the officers to be patient and willing to listen to the concerns of the people before making decisions.
“90% of the time, I have seen problems happen because we go ahead without consulting people. So, it is imperative that before we make a decision, we should talk and sort out,” he said.
Meanwhile, during their training, the newly inducted MCS officers undertook extensive field visits, including a 15-day immersion across five districts of Garo Hills and an exposure trip to Thailand to learn about urban governance, waste management, education, and healthcare.
The training featured 16 thematic modules including governance, law, education, disaster management, urban and rural development, and e-governance.
It also had innovative features such as “Symposium of Solutions” where each trainee presented practical recommendations to key problems facing the state. They also participated in Karmayogi iGOT platform, with the officer trainees completing a total of 489 e-courses.
These were compiled into a publication submitted to the government for possible adoption.
Meanwhile, the officer trainees expressed their gratitude to the chief minister, chief secretary, DGs, directors, and mentors at MATI for their guidance and support.
They recalled memorable moments including a session with football icon Sunil Chhetri and the collaborative spirit that defined their training journey.
