Cabinet drops 5-year service clause for promotion in Fisheries Dept

Shillong, Aug 26: The State Cabinet on Tuesday approved the amendment of the Fisheries Department Service Rules.

Addressing media persons after the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said through the amendment, the government has removed a clause that required employees to have at least five years of service left to be eligible for promotion in the Fisheries department.

The decision aims to provide equal opportunities for promotion to all eligible employees, regardless of their service duration.

“This clause was never there in the department. Hence, we have removed it from the fisheries department. We strongly feel that the five-year requirement is unfair. We have removed that clause to make it equal for all. So, those who are eligible for promotion will not be denied because of this particular clause which is now being removed,” the CM stated.
