Shillong, Sep 6: Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Saturday inaugurated the Good Samaritan cum Counselling Centre, set up with an aim of providing support and guidance to young people struggling with addiction, at Khlieh Iewduh here.
In his address, Lyngdoh said the centre would serve as a vital resource for youth in Iewduh, which has been severely affected by drug abuse.
Social Welfare department is getting the support and cooperation of experienced counsellors and well-wishers who have successfully helped many young people overcome substance abuse, he said.
The minister informed that the government is covering the rent for the centre, and caretakers have been appointed to manage the facility.
He also announced that counsellors will receive incentive benefits for their services.
He also asserted that the government is committed to setting up more counselling centres based on demand, ensuring that the initiative reaches a wider audience and makes a meaningful impact in the community.
